Here's Our House...Here's the Steeple...

Open it up and see all the Su_____s. I am SO RELIEVED to post that we have found shelter! And it is the perfect set-up for our large, but financially strapped family. An old church building. Can we get any weirder?
Yes, it needs A LOT of work, but we are getting it on awesome terms, and we've never been afraid of hard work. Now, you generally do not find baths in a church building, but for a short time, it was used as a women's shelter, so we already have two showers and a tub in a large communal bath. We will have to have boy hour and girl hour for the bathroom. Cari, honey, don't fail me now....this is the challenge of a lifetime. How to make a 1965 fellowship hall into a homey den and dining combo?
Each of the kids will have their own bedroom--it's almost more than their minds can comprehend. I will be able to have a sewing/craft room and an office. HALLELUJAH!
Carla Mae Jenkins, these pictures are for you, girl, 'cause I love you so much. These are photos of the side we will be living in (fellowship hall and adult education rooms). I hope to open my own daycare center next fall in the other half (sanctuary, nursery suite and children's Sunday school rooms). I didn't take photos of that half, but you can see the sanctuary wing in the background of the play area. Look at the size of my LAUNDRY ROOM!!! Brings a tear to my eye.

And much, much more!

YEA!!!!!! That's awesome! I've always secretly dreamed of living in an old church. All of that room...some of those sanctuaries are HUGE! A bedroom for every kid! WOW! Can't wait to see how you transform the building into a home.

Wonderful!! A great set-up just right for you...I can always schedule a visit in the near future (we do framing, sheetrocking, painting, nail-gunning, plumbing, and some electrical now, thanks to the guest house master class) when you need migrant labor:)

Oh- Chris is now the fiction editor at reliefjournal.com...if you or the master know of any good Christian lit. short fiction be sure to send it his way!

love,

Jen

A room for every child sounds like a great setup. I also like the idea of the daycare...sounds perfect. Good luck!

This challenge is literally exhilarating!!! A pass through with a counter to serve lunch cafeteria style??? Forget the laundry room, THAT is extravagance! I am officially fired up. God is good all the time!

So i've been thinking about this house of yours!!! And what i'm thinking is... that i'm going to need to visit it!

I remember standing in Port Caddo's fellowship hall and deciding what each of those rooms would be if we turned it into a house.

SUPER SUPER EXCITED FOR YOU!!

And it's TOTALLY possible to make this cute and homey! My friend once lived in a metal (storage/garage) building and it worked great and looked FABulous!

So can i visit some time?

Perfect! And the kids all have their own room. And you'll have a great place for your daycare. Wow! So glad that you found that place.
Brings back memories for me. We lived in our church for 2 years. Yep, in the church while we had church there. It was an old dress factory. One floor had 6 rooms, kitchen and bathroom. Which we made, 3 kids room, parents, living room and dad's office. It was great.
